Mix of Miracles and Medicine

With my work experience, the recent political push on Healthcare, and several medical incidents occurring close to home, I have been marveling at the existence of medicine.

Hundreds, even thousands, of medical bills are being sent out to people each day - for all manner of infirmities. Finances can be so overwhelming and cast such a gloomy shadow over the recovery of those patients. Yet, isn't it a BLESSING to have an emergency room near by - whatever the cost?

New Healthcare plans or strategies are continually introduced into our country and communities. It is scary to comprehend the changes that may or may not take place. I am calm and at peace knowing that the Hospital will still be there.

Jake's recent appendix adventure, close friends with preemie babies, cancer ever present in our midst, a sudden accident in my home town... Even myself being sick this week - what if it weren't for those antibiotics? Would my faith be tough enough to get rid of every bug, cold, or flu? And so I know that God is at the head of it, but gave us medicine to ease the way.

"Fate's got a lot to do... sometimes we must give her a hand."

- And this is the mix of miracles and medicine. That we know God is there to comfort, protect, and even heal. Yet in his blessing the discoveries of treatments and cures have been made. Vast knowledge has been obtained about our health and is readily available to us with a signature on our prescription order. Although our extensive research and conclusions are minimal compared to our Father in Heaven's view - I know that the mix is just right. He allows our pain to be dulled with a dose of Advil, our ailments to be overcome through procedures, and still leaves room for faith.

I am grateful to know that in a state of worry or emergency we can all make a quick drive to the hospital and DO something to counteract the negative course of events. I am so thankful that there are actions we can take to calm our nervous idle hands. That in a state of panic we have a clinic to go to - and that when we get there, God will be there also.
